I am looking for suggestions a for a Windows application which can be used to send a Wake on LAN magic packet to a remote machine. I am using this in LAN. Looking for a Windows utility to send Wake on LAN magic packet closed Ask Question. How to send a magic packet from linux to Windows. Download this app from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows Phone 8.1. See screenshots, read the latest customer reviews, and compare ratings for MagicPacket.

Windows 10 fails to send Wake-On-Lan magic packet to target device when using WolCmd.exe (v3.8.2003.44 from Digital Wired Limited)) or wol.exe (v1.10 from Gammadyne Corp) both programs work inside VirtualBox running Windows 7 hosted on the same Windows 10 device, so it's not a firewall or driver issue. On a remote Windows Server 2008. system that is on the same subnet of the system to Wake Up, run a WOL utility. It reads Magic Packet Sent To 255.255.255.255. WakeUp utility is fairly old and outdated and is hosted on Sites.google.com – the Utility initiates a Magic Packet to wake up remote PC’s via Command-line as well. You will need the Mac Address of the remote computer and make sure the Wake On Lan is configured properly on both the network Interface and BIOS. Friends I read here and elsewhere about a handy AMD-attributed utility to help users easily send the WOL Wakeup call across LAN to a PC on standby in this case a PC that is my server. I found some 4 year old links to the supposed utility filename magicpkt.exe but the links to somewhere on AMD's labyrinth were dormant.

Jun 23, 2016  It is my recommended command line utility which must be used according to the following syntax: wolcmd mac address ip address subnet mask port number. 5 thoughts on “ How to use wake on LAN on Windows 10. The magic packet is sent on layer 2.

I've the same issue, that I've posted elsewhere. The windows NIC drivers appear to completely shut the connection down in all sleep/shutdown modes. By reverting to the drivers supplied by my mobo this is avoided, but unfortunately these are quickly overwritten again by the windows versions.

Windows 10 Wake On Lan

Truthfully, as with so many other issues with this beta test, I've found I really don't have the time or patience to reinstall everything just about everyday so I'm just letting it ride until they finally achieve a stable build. If they don't I'm returning to my old OS.

Running 10240 here and still, WOL doesnt work

If i put the computer to sleep or hibernate it works normally

But shutting down doesnt, was working perfectly with windows 8.1

- Disabled fastboot

- All NIC configs are exactly as they were on 8.1

- Using a WOL sniffer i can check the command is reaching the computer normally (thats why i can wake up from hibernation, sleep etc)

What gives?

If I look at my switch, none of the Ethernet connected W10 boxes show up when they are not active. All other OSs give an indication that there is at least a NIC on the other end of the wire.

This is is a big deal breaker for me as I run a number of headless remote units. MS need to sort this out soon!

* Latest Win10 x64 build (RTM?)

Magic Packet Utility Windows 10 64

* WoL activated in Bios

* WoL activated in Ethernetcard settings

* Disabled Fast Boot

It was working for me on Win8.1 with the exact same settings. Can you please pass that information to the appropriate technical department so there is a chance for it being fixed to release? (If not already happened)

Please let us know when you got an update or another setting we have to change.

Thanks,

Emanuel

edit: Installing the way older driver from Realtek website helped for me but as someone mentioned before it gets overwritten after every 2nd restart and my WoL is unfunctional again.

Yep! Same here still, all the latest upgrades and updates, still no WOL. As I've said before, the only thing that works is to install the original mobo drivers (era W7). However Windows update doesn't find this acceptable.

Fugueup

Yes, I know I can disable driver updating and hide patches etc. BUT WHY SHOULD I?

These Network chips are hardly bleeding-edge, surely enough is known of them to correct this issue. Either that, or MS must allow us to install our own drivers.

Linux packages thousands of drivers into the kernel, a lot of these have to be reverse engineered by volunteers as the proprietary software is not available. If I've ever had a problem such as this it is patched within days. Not the months that this has so far taken, and the communities don't issue the kind of mindless platitudes that we have to put up with from the 'Support Engineers'- Of whom I hope their pay scales reflect their general lack of effectiveness.

Wake on LAN is a utility to wake a device (PC, laptop, tablet) which is asleep and supports to be woken by Wake on LAN. Add a configuration by specifying a unique name and mac address and select a picture (which will be used if a live tile is created). Multiple configurations for devices which can be woken can be created. For each configuration a live tile can be made. Some simple explanation on WOL. Some devices support sleep/hibernate modes where the device (PC, etc) can be woken by a so-called magic packet on the ethernet (or wireless) interface. This tool can send this magic packet. To use the tool the mac address of the network card (or wireless adapter) has to be filled in (can often be found in routers). This tool will not work on internet, only on local networks. This tool only sends the magic packet. Putting a device in sleep where it can be woken has to be configured 'manually'. Most of the time it is a configuration setting in the network driver and it is called wake on magic packet or something similar. Sometimes it is required to configure the BIOS to support this. There is more information to be found on this subject on the internet.
